A life observation

It seems each stage of life brings its own vocabulary…

It seems each stage of life brings its own vocabulary… For example, you know you’re in your thirties when the words ‘jobs’, ‘boyfriends’ and ‘parties’ are replaced with ‘careers’, ‘babies’ and ‘weddings’. (Point in case, my last weekend was filled by a first birthday and a bridal shower.)

My colleague, who’s in his late 40s, said conversations with his mates are largely focused on kids leaving the family nest to pursue their studies.

This change in vocabulary seems to often correlate with significant career decisions, particularly for women.

I watched this ‘old’ TED Talk by Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook, again the other day and was incredibly inspired. (Actually, I was pumped!) Her tip ‘don’t leave until you leave’ is especially important for women in that stage of their life where career decisions need to be made… Watch it. It’s powerful.
