It's time to put my feet up!

The needs vs wants battle

Playwright George Bernard Shaw once said: “Doing what needs to be done may not make you happy, but it will make you great.” So I think, I must be amazing!

Playwright George Bernard Shaw once said: “Doing what needs to be done may not make you happy, but it will make you great.” So I think, I must be amazing!

In 95 percent of cases, I prioritise ‘stuff that needs to be done’ over what I would like to do… and I never seem to see the end of the ‘need to do’ list – whether that be something related to myself, household or work. When I know a task needs addressing, it’s very difficult for me to turn my back on it and let it rest for a while. I recently realised that practically the only times I stop is when I do sports or enjoy the outdoors (lucky I do a fair bit of both!).

But in Shaw’s quote, I can also perceive the need for balance…

Although I enjoy being productive, I realise that learning to stop is important to our wellbeing, and possibly even more so when the amount of responsibilities and tasks increases.

So I would like to aim for a small shift – perhaps 80% needs vs 20% wants (the magic 80/20 rule…). Are you like me the type of person who just can’t sit down? Or have you learnt to bring more balance in your life?

My man and I are flying to Canada in a couple of days to enjoy some well deserved holidays with my family… I think it’s time to put my feet up for a little bit.

  1. I’m with you Kim! I find it so beneficial to have a balance in life, however sometimes that balance is compromised and we can’t help that and so i believe you need to make time to ‘put your feet up’.
I’m planning on doing that up on the Gold Coast with my family for Christmas which i believe is much deserved after the rollercoaster 2014 i feel many have had.
    Have a wonderful break Kim!
