The early bird catches the worm

5am, the alarm clock goes off. It’s Sunday. The temptation to roll over and stay in my warm comfy bed is high. Very high. But today, I want to treat myself… with a sunrise. I get out of bed, boil the kettle for a takeaway tea and within 15 minutes, I’m out the door with my trusty Canon in hand…

I get out of bed, boil the kettle for a takeaway tea and within 15 minutes, I’m out the door with my trusty Canon in hand.

Arrived at North Narrabeen beach, the sky is just starting to show a bit of light. The air is crisp and I am not envying the early swimmers making their way to the rock pool.

A few moments later, another photographer arrives. We observe and wait patiently for the sky to turn its magic on. But it seems the c17567559458_da61110665_zonditions are not ideal – the clouds are low and thick, blocking some of the sun’s warm colours from coming through.

After 30 minutes of ok photography, the other guy leaves. “Don’t go,” I tell myself. I get a sense sun rays will pierce through these clouds and reveal something special. I wait… I wait… Et voila!

Good things come to those who wait. I often find that to be true in various aspects of life. Persistence pays off… and so does getting up at 5am!
